Celestia risk

This material is for informational purposes only and is not exhaustive of all risks associated with trading Celestia. All crypto assets are risky, there are general risks in investing in Celestia. These include volatility risk, liquidity risk, demand risk, forking risk, cryptography risk, regulatory risk, concentration risk & cyber security risk. This is not intended to provide (i) investment advice or an investment recommendation; (ii) an offer or solicitation to buy, sell, or hold crypto assets; or (iii) financial, accounting, legal or tax advice. Profits may be subject to capital gains tax. You should carefully consider whether trading or holding crypto assets is suitable for you in light of your financial situation. Please review the Risk Summary for additional information.

Investment Risk

The performance of most crypto assets can be highly volatile, with their value dropping as quickly as it can rise. You should be prepared to lose all the money you invest in crypto assets.

Lack of Protections

Crypto assets are largely unregulated and neither the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) nor the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) will protect you in the event something goes wrong with your crypto asset investments.

Liquidity Risk

There is no guarantee that investments in crypto assets can be easily sold at any given time.

Complexity

Investments in crypto assets can be complex, making it difficult to understand the risks associated with the investment. You should do your own research before investing. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Concentration Risk

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Putting all your money into a single type of investment is risky. Spreading your money across different investments makes you less dependent on anyone to do well. A good rule of thumb is not to invest more than 10% of your money in high-risk investments.

Five questions to ask yourself

  1. Am I comfortable with the level of risk? Can I afford to lose my money?
  2. Do I understand the investment and could I get my money out easily?
  3. Are my investments regulated?
  4. Am I protected if the investment provider or my adviser goes out of business?
  5. Should I get financial advice?

Movement is finally becoming L1, a chain belonging to the community ⚡️ Sub-second confirmations, a validator network, native $MOVE staking, Move 2 support — everything is about to arrive. Why do this? Movement was initially a subnet of Avalanche, later transforming into an Ethereum L2, planning to use Tendermint consensus, Celestia for DA, along with MoveVM execution. Although the goals are grand, this "modular architecture" is not suitable for us. We must admit: Movement has never missed an opportunity to chase trends. But there is a fine line between strategic transformation and frequent shifts, and we once slid towards the latter. Constantly chasing narratives is equivalent to having no narrative of your own. After seriously researching developers and the community, we realized that the original framework could not support our goals. We are no longer chasing "narrative alignment" but are fully committed to the best Move developer and user experience. The Monza upgrade is a turning point for chain performance, but it’s not enough. We need a framework to support the next generation of perpetual contract DEX, RWA, global DePin, wagerFi, AI Agents, casual games, and those use cases that will emerge in the future. Move 2 priority: Move 2 brings advanced features like enumerated types, function values, and finally random numbers. It will further amplify the advantages of Move. No gimmicks staking: When staking goes live, locked tokens cannot participate; only unlocked tokens can. The team and investors will not use locked tokens to siphon off rewards. Seamless migration: What do Movers need to do? Nothing at all. The migration will be completed automatically, with details to be announced in a few weeks. Wait, wasn’t Movement already L1? Not really. Although many people (like @hosseeb) have misunderstood, Movement has never been L1. There was even a debate in the community between @toghrulmaharram and the team about "sidechain vs true L2" — technically, we are indeed a sidechain. 📢 The L1 testnet is about to launch. Movement 2.0 is here. Put your faith in gmove.

Movement is finally becoming an L1, The People’s Chain. Sub-second finality. Validators. Native $MOVE staking. Move 2 support. Why? Movement started as an Avalanche subnet, then pivoted to becoming an Ethereum L2 that would use Tendermint Consensus, Celestia for DA, and of course the MoveVM for execution. Although an ambitious goal, the Frankenstein thesis just didn’t make sense for us. The elephant in the room is that Movement never missed an opportunity to ride a meta. However, there is a fine line between strategic pivoting and constant redirection…and we strayed towards the latter. Constantly chasing narratives is just admission that you don’t have your own. When we diligently surveyed our builders and community, we realized that the original architecture/framework was not tenable for what we have set out to accomplish. We are no longer chasing “alignment”, we are pursuing the optimal Move builder and user experience. The Monza network upgrade was a huge milestone and turning point for Movement’s chain performance, but it's not enough. We need a framework that can support next generation perp dexes, RWA’s, global-scale DePin, wagerFi, AI agents, casual gaming, and use cases that remain to be seen. Move 2 first: Move 2 makes the Move advantage with advanced features like enum types and function values. Randomness will also finally be ready. No bullshit staking: When staking goes live, locked tokens can’t be staked. Unlocked tokens only. No team members or investors to jeet locked token rewards on your head. Seamless migration: So what do you have to do if you’re a Mover? Nothing. We are weeks away and will provide more details as we get closer. Wait a minute, I thought you were an L1 this whole time? Contrary to popular belief (looking at you @hosseeb), we never have been. There was a CT verbal fist fight between @toghrulmaharram and our team about how we are a sidechain, and not truly an L2….which is technically correct. So that's probably what you remember. L1 Testnet soon. Movement 2.0 is here. Gmove to the believers.

Dive deeper into Celestia

Celestia is a modular blockchain network that enables developers to build scalable, secure, and interoperable decentralized applications (dApps). Celestia decouples the data availability layer from the execution layer, allowing each layer to be optimized for its specific purpose. This makes Celestia more scalable and efficient than traditional monolithic blockchains.

How does Celestia work?

Celestia works by separating the blockchain into two layers: the data availability layer and the execution layer. The data availability layer is responsible for storing and validating transaction data, while the execution layer is responsible for executing transactions and updating the state of the blockchain.

The data availability layer uses a sampling mechanism to ensure that all transaction data is available to all nodes on the network. This makes Celestia more secure than traditional blockchains, as it is more difficult for attackers to tamper with the transaction data.

The execution layer can be implemented using any type of virtual machine, which makes Celestia more flexible and adaptable than traditional blockchains. Developers can choose the virtual machine that best suits their needs, and they can even build their own custom virtual machines.

Celestia price and tokenomics

Celestia's native token is TIA. TIA is used to pay for transaction fees, secure the network, and participate in governance.

TIA has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. The tokens are allocated as follows:

  • 26.8% - R&D and ecosystem
  • 19.7% - Series A and B investors
  • 17.6% - Initial core contributors
  • 15.9% - Seed investors
  • 12.6% - Future initiatives
  • 7.4% - Genesis drop and incentivized testnet

TIA is currently trading at $2.38 (as of November 1, 2023). It has a market capitalization of $336.99 million.

About the founder

Mahmutovic is a former software engineer at Facebook, where he worked on the development of the Novi digital wallet.

Celestia highlights

  • Scalability: Celestia is designed to be scalable to millions of transactions per second.
  • Security: Celestia uses a variety of security features to protect the network and its users, including proof-of-stake consensus, sharding, and fraud proofs.
  • Interoperability: Celestia is interoperable with other blockchains, which means that Celestia dApps and smart contracts can communicate and interact with dApps and smart contracts on other blockchains.
  • Flexibility: Celestia is a modular blockchain, which means that its different components can be upgraded or replaced without disrupting the entire network. This makes Celestia more flexible and adaptable than traditional monolithic blockchains.
